Outdoor sauna installed by Ryt Saunas in Canada, featuring an open glass door and aspen wood interior. Designed for year-round use, this sauna provides a cozy and luxurious wellness experience, ideal for Canadian climates.

Our main build is fully modular:

  • 7 complete main pieces
  • Plus benches, railing, heater, door and floor board
  • It can be assembled and disassembled in under 2 hours
  • Modular design allows it to pass through tight spaces to get into your preferred location
  • Take it with you when you move!

Modular / Custom design:
We also offer the option to construct and design a modular sauna with customization tailored to your preferences. Our standard sauna is entirely modular, wherein we fabricate all panels beforehand and then assemble them on-site. However, if necessary, we can further customize the sauna by conducting additional installation work on-site. While we aim to pre-build as much of the sauna as possible, we're flexible in adding customization at your location.

Abundant insulation:
Designed for use in all the Canadian seasons, even the winter (tested in the cold winters of Ontario at -24 celsius)

  • True R20 insulated walls, R24 ceiling and the option for a well insulated door

  • Designed to eliminate thermal bridging (loss of insulating value) which most saunas would suffer from

  • Full aluminum foil vapour barrier that is sealed with high heat aluminum tape

  • No spray foam or other chemicals are used in the construction. The insulation used is Rockwool mineral wool and rigid polysiocyanurate foam aluminum foil panels. Both are rated for extreme temperatures.  Everything is sealed with high heat aluminum tape.
  • No expense is spared in sealing and insulating our sauna!

Plenty of Ventilation:

Proper ventilation is a fundamental aspect of an authentic sauna and we have incorporated 5 major vents.
  • We have 3x the required venting to make sure you have plenty of fresh air
  • 4 of the 5 vents are adjustable to your venting preference
  • Make sure you read our FAQ about venting!
  • Smaller builds will have less vents but still have much more than the industry standard

Shower add on:

  • Instant hot water tank - no plumbing needed
  • No electrical set up
  • 3 season use
  • Custom privacy walls - contact us to discuss the options available
  • Pricing info is in our Pricing and Options section

A bit about us and how we build:

We are a small business that handcrafts each sauna unit with exceptional attention to detail. I, Mark, am personally involved in every sauna build, ensuring our quality control remains high. Unlike mass production facilities or sawmills that churn out units, we take the time to ensure each sauna is built to last a lifetime. Up until Dec 1, 2024, we were constructing each sauna in my garage and assembling it completely before taking it apart for delivery.

As of December 1, 2024 we are now in an industrial unit at 160 Finchdene Sqaure, Scarborough. Unit 11. We found a perfect unit that was fully set up for wood working and assembling our saunas!

Our primary building process consists of constructing the sauna 100% in our shop. We then take it apart, put it into a trailer and bring it to you!

Once on-site at your location, we reassemble the sauna in about two hours, ensuring a seamless and sturdy installation.

Built to last:

Built locally in Toronto, Ontario. Each sauna is hand built for a top quality product.

Exterior

  • Designed to be maintenance free and long lasting! No other saunas on the market offer this
  • High quality LP Smartside wood panels or custom siding exterior
  • All exterior metal is aluminum (never rust or corrode)

Interior

  • All fasteners are stainless steel to eliminate corrosion
  • Sauna heater exterior is stainless steel
  • Aluminum foil vapour barrier and strapping behind the panelling to allow for continuous air flow behind the panels to create a better heat and to keep the panelling from trapping moisture.

Fully sealed base:

  • Inside and outside, even underneath with aluminum! No competitor has anything even close to how good our bases are.

  • Full waterproof and draining floor. Use as much water as you want! Bath in the sauna, hose it down to wash it...  It is fully waterproof unlike most (if not all) competitors.

    • It drains to the side so you don’t have to worry about water and ice buildup underneath like a common centre floor drain

    • most sauna kits on the market have a timber wood floor where the water just seeps through. This is not good, especially in Canada with our cold winters and all the ice buildup you will get underneath. Not to mention all the moisture that will attract rodents and ants.
    • Drain can be built to drain to the left or the right side

Aluminum roof:

  • Super long lasting!
  • Custom made to each specific sauna. Standing seam aluminum roof with Rhinoroof U20 synthetic underlayment for extra protection.
  • No need to worry about re-shingling the sauna in the years to come!
  • Competitor saunas have a rubber membrane roof that will last only a few years and then start to leak. Ours will last a lifetime!

We use local Ontario Aspen ¾” thick wood for the interior. It is a beautiful light coloured wood with a pleasant aroma. It is a superior choice for the sauna interior for these reasons:

  • It is non-toxic, non-allergenic and no off-gasing
    • some people are allergic to Red Cedar
  • No-resin - unlike Pine or Spruce that will drip resin/sap as it heats up
  • Highly resistant to moisture, fungus and bacteria
  • Easy to treat with a natural sealant for long lasting use
  • Gentle and pleasant aroma
  • Low density - keeps it from getting too hot
  • Light in colour giving the sauna a modern and spacious feel. Darker woods, such as Cedar, can make a space feel smaller.
  • Consistent in colour giving the sauna a beautiful appearance. Red Cedar lacks colour consistency and can often appear visually cluttered.
  • It is the main wood used in saunas in Finland (Red Cedar is not native to Finland and is a North American invention)

The color difference between fresh-cut cedar, sauna-used cedar, and aspen is striking. Cedar darkens considerably, especially with sauna use, while aspen's change is much less pronounced.

  • We use 5 ¼” Aspen clear shiplap. This gives the sauna a modern rustic outdoor cabin look and feel. This is included in our pricing.
  • We also stock clear 1x6 premium Aspen tongue and groove (extra charges apply for this wood. See Pricing and Options for details).
  • We typically install wood horizontally for optimal airflow. This allows for vertical installation of strapping (furring strips), which allows for vertical airflow behind the wood. Vertical wood installation is also possible for an extra charge of $250 as we have to carefully layer the strapping to allow for airflow. Please note that shiplap cannot be installed vertically, but tongue and groove wood can.

We also offer the flexibility to install various wood types and styles according to your preferences and budget. Contact us to discuss it more.

Here is a list of other woods that we can source and install which would cost extra:

  • Cedar 1x4 or 1x6 tongue and groove (knotty or clear)
  • Cedar 5 1/4 shiplap
  • Easter white cedar tongue and groove
  • Clear Pine

Benches and Configuration:

Bench height is essential for an authentic Finnish sauna experience, where ideally, your feet should be level with or above the rocks. While this setup is easy to achieve in larger saunas with a three-tier bench design, it’s more challenging in smaller saunas. Often, images of compact saunas reveal a lower foot bench 8-15 inches below the rocks—a compromise we find unacceptable. That’s why we’ve thoughtfully and carefully  crafted our saunas to keep your feet as elevated as possible while maintaining easy access to the first bench. Thanks to our high-quality insulation, your feet rest just below the rocks but stay comfortably warm, even in the depths of winter.

  • Benches can be lifted up and out of the way if you want more space to stretch or exercise. This also makes for easy cleaning
  • We take our time and build the benches super heavy duty with no fasteners showing
  • Bench mounts are reinforced within the wall framing with heavy duty 5” long and 3/8” thick lag bolts
  • Door hinge, floor drain, heater and electrical items can be installed on the right or the left

Floor board

Our saunas feature a removable floorboard that elevates your sauna experience. Designed to match your sauna's interior, this floorboard offers several advantages:

  • Smooth Transition: Step effortlessly into your sauna without any obstructions.
  • Optimal Heat: The 4.5" elevated floorboard allows for higher bench positioning, maximizing heat exposure.
  • Easy Maintenance: Easily remove the floorboard for cleaning and drying, ensuring a hygienic sauna environment

Colour choice: (No other competitor that we know of offers this!)

  • Choose ANY colour for your LP Smartside panels - the panels are primed from the factory and we then paint them with a top rated exterior paint of you colour choice
  • More than 50 colours of aluminum to choose from for the trim, base, door frame and roof!

Customize the exterior: (This will cost extra. Contact us to discuss your requests)

Upgrade the exterior to Chamclad 100% Canadian recycled PVC cladding. Chamclad has many profiles and colours to choose from to help you find the exact look you are going for!

You can view their product line here: Chamclad Cladding

Customization: (These will cost extra. Contact us to discuss your requests)

Here is a list of some custom options along with our estimated additional costs. As you’ll notice on our website, we aim to provide as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision about your sauna and your budget.

  • Modify the size of the sauna (longer and or deeper) (add $500-2000+)
  • Add a custom exterior finish to the front or to all the walls (Chamclad or other siding materials) (add  $750-2600+)
  • Add a change room to the side with a separate entrance (add $3500+)
  • Add more glass / windows (add $500+)
  • Install different wood for the interior (add $700 - 2500+)
  • Shift the position of the door on the front wall ($300)
  • Extend the roofline to one side to create a porch overhand. To do this we would also need to extend the base and add two extra walls or two posts to secure the roof to the base ($2500+)
  • Add a small canopy on the side wall as a cover for a shelf and towel hooks ($400+)
  • If there is something else you are wanting, let us know and we can see if we can make it happen! No promises though but we will try.

Heater:

We use Canadian made heaters!

For our large 4 person sauna, we use a 6000 watt CSA approved heater that is locally manufactured in Markham, Ontario by Fenno Manufacturing since 1944.

We also use a Fenno 9000 watt heater for builds that are 42 sq ft and larger.

For smaller builds, we will use 3000-5000 watt CSA approved heaters from SaunaCore which are locally manufactured in Bolton, Ontario.

And for builds that need a 7000 or 8000 watt we will use a SaunaCore heater.

  • The 6000 watt heater requires a 30 amp (non GFI) breaker
  • These are all wet sauna heaters - they are designed to have water thrown on the rocks to create a great löyly (Finnish word for steam rising from the rocks) experience!
  • Rocks will be included for all heaters
  • Mechanical controls included (temperature and timer controls) with the 6000 watt heater. Digital controls may come with smaller heaters.
  • We do not provide any upgrades to Bluetooth or WiFi controls (see question about “What about digital and bluetooth or WiFi controls?")
    • You can source this yourself and have an electrician install it after we deliver your sauna. You will need to find a heater and control unit. Your estimated cost for the upgraded heater and control panel will be $2000-3000 in parts plus labour.

We can source other brand heaters if you want. We prefer to buy local for a few reasons:

  1. No distributor in the middle. We buy direct from the manufacturers.
  2. The heaters do not have to travel over the ocean to get here! And what happens if they are out of stock or a part is only available from across the ocean?
  3. Very easy to source parts and get warranty work completed if an issue arises.
  4. We know of a major name brand heater that has an ongoing problem with their timers burning out. So just because a heater might have a popular brand name on it doesn’t make it bulletproof.

Electrical: We know that there is a lot of info in this section, but please do read it carefully. It will make the installation of your sauna much easier.

We strive to simplify the process of purchasing and installing a sauna, ensuring a seamless experience for you. Unlike many sauna sellers who merely provide the heater, and control panel, leaving customers to grapple with electrical intricacies, we've taken extensive measures to alleviate these concerns. Recognizing the challenges individuals face in navigating electrical setups, especially with saunas, we've gone above and beyond to streamline the process.

We suspect sauna manufacturers avoid direct guidance on electrical installation due to legal limitations and a desire to avoid complex customer inquiries. This often leads to critical questions remaining unanswered, such as: * "Is the installed heater size compliant with safety regulations for this sauna size?" * "How can a 3-inch thick control panel be properly mounted on a 1.5-inch thick timber wall?" * "Is the control panel adequately protected from rain?

We think this is crazy that you should be left to decipher all the connections and source all the correct components. Many electricians may lack experience in setting up saunas, leading to potential errors and increased costs. Recognizing this, we've taken extra steps to provide you with a hassle-free sauna setup experience.

What truly sets us apart in sauna safety and installation? We've revolutionized the process by offering pre-installation of all components before delivery. That means your sauna arrives with everything already expertly installed, saving you time and hassle. But we don't stop there. We also secure a safety certification through eSAFE Product Approval Services, providing you with unparalleled peace of mind. This ensures our saunas meet the highest safety standards—a level of assurance you simply won't find anywhere else in North America.

Once certified, it's done for good! This eSAFE approval is permanently tied to your sauna, offering continued peace of mind whether you decide to move it or pass it on to a new owner.

Choosing to forgo our electrical installation and certification service could lead to future headaches if you ever relocate your sauna. Upon moving and reconnecting, local inspectors will want to know who performed the electrical work on the sauna itself. This means your original electrician would have to apply for a permit for that specific portion. The new electrician you hire to connect it to your new home won't be able to sign off on work they didn't do. It's a bit intricate, but the key takeaway is that all electrical connections require a permit every single time they're hooked up

Please note that the sauna prices listed in our 'Pricing' section do not include the electrical installation or certification discussed above. For these costs, please continue reading to view the prices for our electrical package.

Option 1: Full Electrical Package Installation & eSAFE Certification - $2450

Choose this option for ultimate convenience and peace of mind. We'll expertly install the complete electrical system directly onto your sauna and secure its eSAFE certification before it's even delivered.

  • This option is available only to the customers that we drive to and deliver and assemble the sauna (as opposed to us putting the sauna in a crate and shipping it to you)

Here's a reworded list, focusing on clarity, conciseness, and benefits, while maintaining the original technical detail:

What Our Electrical Package Includes

When you choose Ryt Saunas for your electrical installation, we handle everything listed below. This ensures a safe, certified, and ready-to-connect sauna experience:

  • Sub-Panel & Breakers: We supply and install a 4-slot sub-panel with dedicated breakers for both the heater and light, ensuring proper power distribution and safety.
  • Control Enclosure: A robust PVC or metal enclosure box will be provided and installed to securely house your control panel and light dimmer switch.
  • Pre-Mounted Controls: The control box and light switch box are pre-mounted within the enclosure for a clean and efficient setup.
  • Custom Cover Plate: We craft a custom cover plate designed to fit perfectly over your controls and light switch, providing a finished look.
  • Secure Enclosure Access (Metal Boxes): If you opt for a metal enclosure, we'll install a custom latch underneath for easy, secure opening, closing, and locking.
  • Interior Light Wiring: The light box is installed into the interior wall, with high-heat rated wire expertly run through exterior conduit to the light switch.
  • Conduit Connections: The sub-panel is securely connected to the control box using durable conduit.
  • Heater Wiring: We run the heater wire from the control box directly through the sauna wall, ready for your electrician to connect, and provide all necessary connectors.
  • Marine-Grade Lighting: An interior marine-grade light fixture and bulb are supplied and installed for durability and optimal lighting.
  • Thermostat Installation: Your sauna's thermostat will be precisely installed for accurate temperature control.
  • Bonding Plate: We install a bonding plate to simplify the grounding of the aluminum floor for your electrician.
  • High-Heat Sealing: All interior and exterior holes are meticulously sealed with high-heat silicone for insulation and protection.

What Your Electrician Will Do

Once your sauna is delivered and assembled by us, your licensed electrician's tasks will be remarkably simple and straightforward:

  • Main Panel Connection: They will supply and install the appropriate breaker in your main electrical panel and run the necessary wire to the sauna's pre-installed sub-panel.
  • Heater Connection: Connecting the heater is quick – they just need to attach it to the pre-installed wires (black, white, ground) we've provided.
  • Floor Bonding: They'll easily connect a wire to the metal bonding plate for the aluminum floor, using the supplied wire, nut, and bolt.
  • ESA Permit: Finally, they will apply for the electrical permit from ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) specifically for the work they have performed.

These steps are designed to be highly efficient and clear for any qualified electrician.

Electrical Package Pricing

Our electrical package pricing is determined by your sauna's heater size:

  • For 6kW Heaters and Smaller: The package price is $2450.
  • For Heaters Larger Than 6kW: The price starts at a minimum of $2950+. Larger heaters require additional components, including an appropriately rated electrical contactor and an exterior-rated enclosure box, along with extra wiring to the heater.

Customization Options Available:

We understand that every setup is unique. We may be able to modify this standard package to suit your specific needs. Please inform us if:

  • You already have a sub-panel conveniently located nearby.
  • You wish to integrate a larger sub-panel directly onto the sauna.
  • You'd like to add a receptacle to the setup.

Simply let us know your existing setup or any desired additions, and we'll work with you to tailor the package.

Option 2: Component Supply Package - $275 - $325

This option is ideal if you prefer to handle the installation yourself or with your own electrician. We will provide you with some essential electrical components to get you started.

Key Components We Provide

We can supply some of the more challenging components to source, saving you time and hassle. A common difficulty for many electricians is finding an enclosure box that's correctly sized for both the controls and a light switch, while also meeting the necessary safety ratings.

We'll provide you with either a durable metal enclosure box or a PVC box with a clear lid, depending on our current stock.

Additionally, we include three custom black aluminum cover plates. These are designed to neatly conceal the wiring inside the enclosure box for a clean finish. We provide extras just in case your electrician needs a couple of tries to get the perfect cut!

The price for the PVC box option is $275, and the metal box option is $325.

Option 3: Electrician Recommendation Service

If you prefer to have all electrical work completed on-site after delivery and installation, we can recommend licensed electricians who can handle everything for you. This approach might be a more budget-friendly option, but it's important to note that you would not receive our eSAFE sauna certification with this service.

With this option, the recommended electrician would be responsible for all electrical installations at your location after we've delivered and set up your sauna. They would also be responsible for obtaining all necessary permits for their work.

With these three distinct options, our goal is to make getting you into a sauna easy and headache-free. Let us know which option works best for you, and we'll help you take the next step!

Important Note: The warranty is void if the sauna is not connected by a licensed electrician with the proof of an invoice or permit. We will not warranty any of our products if not connected properly, as improper connections can lead to excessive heat, lack of heat, fires, and various other issues.
