ELECTRICAL

What it takes to power your sauna

Electrical is a separate add-on, but we offer more support here than anyone else in the industry. Three options available to make your life easy.

Inside a Ryt Sauna with the heater running: aspen walls, benches and backrest, rocks glowing red in the heater, and the glass door looking out to the yard

THE BASICS

Every Ryt Sauna runs on 240V.

Every Ryt heater requires a dedicated 240V circuit. None run on 120V. Electrical work is not included in the base sauna price.

Getting your sauna up and running is as seamless as the build itself. Choose from three simple installation options tailored to your location and how hands-on you’d like your local electrician to be.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

What usually happens.

You buy a sauna, and then you are told to hire an electrician. That is where it gets expensive in ways nobody warned you about.

  • · You have no reference price, so you cannot tell whether a quote is fair.
  • · Most electricians have never wired a sauna, so they are working out the drilling, the wire, and the control mounting as they go.
  • · The high-heat RW90 wire is not stocked off the shelf and cannot be bought by the foot, so they have to source it while you wait or use sub-par wires.
  • · The job runs longer than quoted and costs more than quoted.

And when it is finished you have no way to know whether it was done right. That is the part that matters, because your warranty depends on it.

Three ways to wire it.

All three are available on every build, whether we deliver and install it or crate and ship it to you. Every sauna includes the heater, its rocks, and the controls in the base price.

Option 1: Certified before it leaves the shop.

We build a full electrical package onto the sauna in our shop: a 4-slot sub-panel mounted on the exterior, breakers for the heater and interior light, marine-grade fixture wired in, controls and dimmer switch installed, custom cover plate, all conduit runs sealed with high-heat silicone. We test it, we certify it through eSAFE Product Approval Services, and then we deliver it.

The certification is permanent. It travels with the sauna if you ever move it. As far as we know, we are the only sauna company in North America offering this.

None of that work happens in your driveway, and none of it is your electrician’s to figure out. Your hired electrician’s job is reduced to four things:

  • · Run the power line from your main panel to the sauna sub-panel.
  • · Connect three wires at the heater (about 10 minutes).
  • · Ground the bonding plate (15 seconds).
  • · Apply for a permit for only the portion of work they did (easy to pass inspection).

OPTION #1 PRICING

It depends on the exact heater and control unit, but the general guideline is:

6 kW heaters and smaller
$2,750
Heaters larger than 6 kW
$3,150

These need a contactor, an exterior-rated enclosure, and heavier wire to the heater itself.

Available on locally installed builds as well as those that we ship and are self assembled.

A white Ryt Sauna on a deck with the eSAFE electrical installed on its exterior wall: two grey enclosures, conduit running up to a light fixture, and a cable dropping to the base
The Option 2 components package laid out on a workbench: a Siemens outdoor sub-panel with its documentation, two grey exterior enclosures, two double-pole breakers, metal device boxes, a Lutron dimmer and cover plate, a boxed outdoor light fixture, conduit lengths and fittings, wire connectors, and coiled red, black, green and white wire with flexible metal conduit

Option 2: The Ultimate Electrician-Ready Package

We remove the hassle, delays, and extra labour costs from your electrical setup by supplying a complete, all-inclusive kit. The heater itself is already in the base price of your sauna, never a separate charge, so what this package adds is everything around it. Beyond the core hardware, including the sub-panel, breakers, control box, dimmer, and custom cover plate, we provide hard-to-find high-heat RW90 wiring (rarely stocked off the shelf) alongside every screw, clip, wire connector, and zip tie your crew needs.

To guarantee a flawless installation, we pre-drill all wall penetrations for the heater, lighting, and thermostat. Your electrician simply mounts, connects, and pulls the local ESA permit with zero time wasted sourcing parts, saving hours on job site labour.

Available on every build, shipped or delivered.

OPTION #2 PRICING

It depends on the exact heater and control unit, but the general guideline is:

6 kW heaters and smaller
$1,400
Heaters larger than 6 kW
$1,850

These need a contactor, an enclosure box, and heavier wire in the package.

Option 3: Referral of a trusted electrician

The heater, rocks, and controls ship with the sauna. Everything else is your electrician’s responsibility: sub-panel, breakers, wire, enclosure, install.

We have a network of trusted electricians that have installed our saunas. This list will continually be growing. As of now we have electricians that can cover the Greater Toronto Area, Huntsville and surrounding areas, Kitchener and London.

This option includes no extra electrical parts, wires or components. The spec sheet below is what your electrician needs to size the circuit correctly.

Cheapest line item on paper. Often not the cheapest path once your electrician quotes the parts they have to source themselves.

OPTION #3 PRICING

No charge. We will be glad to help you find a trusted electrician.

Precision Power Management

To deliver authentic, reliable heat, all Ryt saunas operate on a hardwired 240V system. Larger heaters will require a contactor to manage power loads automatically, protecting your system hardware for years of worry-free use.

Saunacore 5 kW 20.8 A 30 A
Fenno 6 kW 25.0 A 40 A

FOR THE BUYER Send both tables, not just the row for your heater. The breaker size and the wire gauge go together.

WARRANTY AND YOUR ELECTRICIAN

Keep the invoice.

The sauna needs to be connected by a licensed electrician, and the work needs to be done to code. That is what the heater is built and certified around.

Keep their invoice. The heater warranty runs on a paper trail: if a heater, control, or sensor ever fails, the invoice is what shows us the connection was done properly and by whom. Without it we have no way to tell a faulty part from a wiring problem, and the claim gets harder for everyone.

Full terms are in section 5.6 of our warranty policy.
